Iris wild flowers grow in wetter areas
Iris wild flowers
Rhododendrons bloom all over the property in late April and early May
Rhododendron flowers are large and pink
Home site looking south, showing driveway entering from the bottom, past the lower cleared area (becomes a rice paddy when wet), up the hill to the trailer (look for the green grass carpet outside the front door) and shed (dark brown with shadow in early morning sun)
Home site aerial view looking southwest showing shed and trailer on home site, the lower cleared area, and the driveway; note the chipper covered by a blue tarp in the bottom of the cleared home site area
Installation of the telephone line through the woods required rolling out three lengths of cable; here Molly is rolling one of them across the ground
Rick installing a junction box between two of the cables by nailing the box to a tree; the phone worked the first time, but we had to come back and repair a broken wire after rolling the cable to the west (right).
Making a field splice between two of the telephone cables
Rick had to make a conference call to San Diego before the line was completely installed, so we came back to the road and used the phone from there; note the culvert under the driveway -- the phone line goes from the phone company rise through the culvert and down the road to the left and then 2,000 feet through the woods to our home site
It was a long conference call . . .
Rob Harlan and Rick making battery cables, two finished ones are at Rick's feet. Other parts are on left, a couple of batteries behind Rick.
Bruce wiring the solar panels behind the shed, Eric painting the mounting board
Six solar panels lie face down while Bruce wires them in series to create 120 volt panel array
Eric and Bruce get some guidance from Rob (inside shed to left) as they mount components on the board; AC breaker box on the left, inverter in the middle, DC breaker box on the right and charge controller at top right
AC/DC at work; Eric wires the AC breaker box on the left while Bruce wires the DC breaker box on the right
